April 2024 Newsletter

Youth of the Year is the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders. We are proud to announce that the Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic’s 2024 Youth of the Year is Nadir Johnson!

Aspiring actor and fashion designer Nadir, age 15, cites the Club as the first place where he was able to explore his passion for performing as a member of the dance team. Today, Nadir is a member of  BGCPP’s Future Leaders Club, which prepares high-achieving teens for college and future careers. The high school sophomore has one of the Top 20 GPAs in his school and is a recipient of the Scholar’s Award, his school’s highest academic honor. Nadir is also a member of JROTC and a mentor for school freshmen.

What’s next for Nadir? A new school! Nadir is one of two Club members selected to receive a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Saddle River Day School. Nadir says that he is ready for big changes and aims to one day give back to the Club that has given so much to him. As leader, artist, and role model, Nadir is a terrific example of the bright and talented Club Kids whose Great Futures start HERE!

Michael Phelps Foundation Grant

Thanks to a grant from the Michael Phelps Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, BGCPP Aquatics leadership staff attended a two-day training on the IM water-safety program, which will be implemented at our Paterson and Passaic Aquatics Centers later this year. While at the training, BGCPP Aquatics Director José Bracho had the opportunity to meet none other than Michael Phelps himself and his wife, Nicole.
